Try the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) test to discover your level of stress. Counselling for the Health of It in Nanaimo helps you to unravel your anxiety symptoms and work on how to overcome fear in general. Although there are various tests that may be used in the assessment of anxiety, the Beck Anxiety Inventory is a one page test that isolates symptoms of anxiety that are physical in nature. It is effective in separating symptoms of anxiety from depression which can often be mistaken for anxiety. The inventory is designed to be straight forward and easy to use. Self administered and interpreted, it is a quick way to assess if what you are feeling is low anxiety, moderate anxiety or a potential cause for concern. If your anxiety is of a moderate degree, this may be the time to be proactive around reducing your stress, before patterns and habits become entrenched. Try it for free below.
Scoring and Interpretation:
Score yourself according to the strength of your anxiety, i.e. 1 point for weak, 2 points for moderate and 3 points for strong. Add up the scores for all 21 symptoms.
Sum total of 0 - 21 indicates very low anxiety. That is usually a good thing. At the same time, it is possible that your assessment was not accurate if self awareness is not optimal. You may have learned to cope with or mask various symptoms. Too little anxiety suggests that you may be detached from yourself, others or your environment in general.
Sum total of 22 - 35 reflects moderate anxiety. Your body may be trying to tell you something. There may be patterns present in how and why you experience symptoms. You may have conflict issues that need to be addressed. You may have responsibilities in the workplace that involve stress such as public speaking. Discovering calming techniques may help lessen the anxiety and improve your productivity. Chances are, you are able to cope yet may want to be proactive in lessening anxiety in your life.
Sum total of 36 + may be a cause for concern. Look for patterns and circumstances around the symptoms that you have a greater degree of reaction to. If your anxiety seems high or persists over time, it is an indication that your mental health, emotional wellbeing and possibly personal clarity is not optimal. Counselling is a resource for you to help discover underlying cause of stress in your life; help you find out, "what you don't know that you don't know."
Taking charge of your anxiety, whether it involves social anxiety, test anxiety, performance anxiety, public speaking anxiety, panic attacks or wondering about what will happen in 2012, takes awareness, focus and commitment to overcome. It takes personal strength to tackle the symptoms of anxiety and seek treatment.
